The Municipality of Paterna is located in the province of Valencia, 5km to the north of the city of Valencia, on the left bank of the River Túria. It forms part of the district of l´Horta Nord, which is in turn part of the Valencia Metropolitan Area.
To the north, the town borders Bétera, with Godella, Burjassot and Valencia to the east, Quart de Poblet and Manises to the south and Riba-roja, l´Eliana and San Antonio de Benagéber to the west.
Paterna covers an area of 36.6 square kilometres, in which 65,282 residents currently live, either in the town itself or the 8 surrounding districts. The area is spread lengthwise, perpendicular to the coastline, from northwest to southeast, stretching around 11 kilometres from one end to the other.
